Camino Primitivo from Lugo

The Camino Primitivo from Lugo is one of the routes that is growing the most among pilgrims in recent years. This itinerary represents an incredible opportunity to travel a very beautiful route, passing through lush forests and enchanting natural landscapes.

Between Lugo and Santiago there are 105 kilometers which also gives you the right to the Compostela.

Today in ALBERGUES DEL CAMINO we are going to know the stages of the Primitive Way from Lugo and the distance between them. Let’s go there!

Stage 1: Lugo – Ferreira (26.5 km)

You will start your Camino Primitivo from Lugo with a stage that continues to show us more about the legacy of the Roman Empire in the peninsula. The main place of interest in this stage will be the church of Santa Eulalia de Bóveda. The origin of this church goes back and links to an ancient Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Cibeles. To visit it we will have to deviate a few kilometers from the Camino, but we assure you that it will be well worth it.

Later, your end of the stage will be in Ponte Ferreira, a population center belonging to the municipality of Palas de Rei. The most characteristic of Ponte Ferreira is its Roman bridge and its idyllic natural setting.

Stage 2: Ferreira – Melide (20 km)

This stage will start as the previous one ended, without slopes for several kilometers. Upon reaching the Sierra de O Careón, you will have to climb a steep slope that will bring you closer to numerous windmills.

Then the Camino descends towards Melide along a dirt path with beautiful views and passes in front of an impressive hórreo.

Melide, the capital of Galician octopus, is a wonderful end to the stage.

Stage 3: Melide – Arzúa (14 km)

From this stage, the Primitive Way converges with the French Way, so you will find a considerable increase in the number of pilgrims.

This stage is short and has the occasional moderate slope. Today you will say goodbye to Melide having a short stage ahead, although with some moderate unevenness.

Once in Arzúa we recommend that you try the typical cheese to which they give their name: Denomination of Origin Arzúa-Ulloa; accompanied by other typical products of the area.

Stage 4: Arzúa – Pedrouzo (19 km)

Today begins the penultimate stage of your Camino Primitivo from Lugo. A pleasant walk through comfortable and flat terrain, with an abundance of bars and restaurants that will encourage you to take it easy.

Once you reach Pedrouzo, we advise you to go to bed early to get up early the next day and start the last stage early. In this way you will arrive in Santiago earlier and you will be able to enjoy more time in the city.

Stage 5: Pedrouzo – Santiago de Compostela (19 km)

We are very sad and also happy to tell you that the last stage of your journey is here.

Once you arrive at Monte do Gozo, you will discover that pleasant feeling when you see the cathedral towers for the first time. A perfect panoramic view before savoring your last kilometers and making the grand entrance to the Plaza del Obradoiro.
