The Portuguese Way and the gastronomic experience

As you know, one of the attractions of the Camino is enjoying the gastronomy offered by the different regions that we are traveling through.

The Camino Portugues is a unique culinary experience, and as a pilgrim, you need to eat well to replenish your strength after days of many kilometers

The Portuguese Way begins its journey in Porto, and in case you did not know, the name given to its inhabitants is that of Tripeiros, so one of the first dishes you should try is Tripas a la Porto, it is a stew that, to older than the casings, today it uses the best parts of the pig.

Another of Porto’s best-known and most emblematic dishes is the Francesinha, an imposing three-tier sandwich with toasted slices of bread stuffed with meat and cold cuts, au gratin with baked cheese and bathed in a tomato and beer sauce with a spicy touch that leaves no one indifferent.

Although you should not stop taking the Cod, the watchword of Portuguese cuisine, with 365 different recipes, one for each day of the year.

As you can see, Portugal has a great gastronomic variety, and if you have time you cannot miss out on trying the Portuguese seafood or its grilled fish. And if you like sweets, you should visit a pastry shop and try the Pastéis de Crema or the Ovos Moles.

Once we enter Galicia, the gastronomic offer continues to be spectacular, since it is one of the regions where the best food is eaten.

Also, taking advantage of the fact that the road runs along the coast, you cannot miss the opportunity to enjoy the best shellfish (razor clams, oysters, clams, lobsters, scallops, razor clams, scallops…) and recharge your batteries with a good seafood platter or enjoy with the best fresh fish. And do not forget to take the Octopus á Feira, a typical elaboration of the community and a delicacy.

Another very characteristic element of Galician gastronomy are empanas, these can be found with all kinds of fillings (Xoubas, zorza, scallops, liscos, tuna, cod with raisins, cockles,…) you won’t know which one to stay with.

The Padrón Peppers also deserve a separate space, some are spicy and others are not. In addition to the different cheeses, meats, breads, omeletes,…

Without a doubt, a gastronomic route that will not leave you indifferent, and you will be able to verify the richness and variety of Galician gastronomy.
